despite all the awfulness in the industry and at the Mercury News in particular. I get to look at these photos every day. The photographers I work with are amazing. Here's a slideshow of stuff they liked the best in 2008:

We had a really nice little Christmas in SF this year. We opened presents, just the three of us, then went to the O'Brien house for dinner. Was really fun. Check out the photos at

Anna with Brian's cigar and scotch and her new duck slippers.
Anna and Ben.
Anna just climbed out of her bed and came out into the living room, crying, to protest being put to bed. I am scared. Does this mean every night will be escape-artist night? every nap? We have (had) such a good little sleeper. OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
doing silly last-minute stuff, even though the bulk of our Christmas was a couple of weeks ago in Phoenix. During this running around downtown, I saw this incredibly overstuffed 2-month-old being carried by her grandmother. So funny. Note the red bow for the holiday. I have no idea how much is baby and how much is clothing:
Anna, my love, my all, my everything, just took a banana and threw it across the room. She pointed to it, told me she did it, and THEN had the gall to demand at the top of her lungs: MORE BANANA!! Sigh. This child needs to get some manners.
Anna and Josie show off their gorgeous bellies. LOVE this photo.
